ECT Year 2 Subject Specific Enhancement DRAMA 2022-23

As a continuation of the ECT subject specific enhancement programme delivered last year we are keen to provide a one-off session for year 2 ECTs.   We will then provide details of a subject specific network you can join across our region to give you the opportunity to stay in touch with other like subject colleagues.  This training is open to all ECTs regardless of their ECF provider.

The subject specific enhancement session for Drama will take place at Beaumont School as follows:

Lynsey Wallace – Head of Drama, Beaumont School

Lynsey is an experienced teacher who has worked as a Drama specialist for 20 years and has experience in contrasting teaching environments. She is currently working at Beaumont School where she has been Head of Drama for the past 4 years. Her biggest project there has been commissioning and directing the premiere of Game Over by Mark Wheeller and The Breck Foundation. She also practices Drama outside of school where she works with local theatre companies, most recently directing a performance of Laura Wade’s Alice at The Minack Theatre.

Music Teacher Network 2022-23

Alban Education are delighted to re-introduce this network giving teachers of music a chance to get together to discuss current issues and changes in the secondary music curriculum.

Face to face twilight sessions will be held termly from 4pm to 5.30pm at Sandringham School on the following dates:

  • Session 1: Thursday, 3rd November 2022
  • Session 2: March date to be agreed in S1
  • Session 3: June date to be agreed in S2

Emma Beaton, Director of Learning for Music, Sandringham School

Emma Beaton has over 20 years of teaching experience across all key stages (including primary phases). Emma is a keen advocate of blended learning techniques and has led several workshops for colleagues and at seminars on this topic. Emma is an experienced faciliator/trainer and also works for Olevi, the Nationally CPD accreditor. Emma is passionate about music and arts education for all and hopes to inspire you with the confidence to plan and deliver an exciting music curriculum and give you the tools you need for longevity in the teaching world!

Lily is the lead learning supervisor at Sandringham school and has held this post for 4 years.

She believes cover supervisors play a vital role in guaranteeing that learning takes place in the absence of the class teacher by creating a continuity that ensures the lesson has meaning and allows for student progression.

Geography Teacher Network 2022-23

This network is for Geography teachers who would like to meet to discuss current issues in Secondary Geography Education and to work collaboratively.

The group will meet termly with twilight sessions running from 4.00pm to 5.30pm on the following dates:

  • Session 1: Thursday, 17th November 2022 at Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School
  • Session 2: to be agreed at session 1
  • Session 3: to be agreed at session 2

Who is this course for?

All Geography teachers – any experience.

What are the objectives or outcomes?

On this programme participants will:

  • Discuss opportunities and challenges linked to all key stages of the Geography curriculum (KS1-KS5)
  • Explore how Geography contributes to whole school cross-curricular initiatives
  • Discuss changes in assessment in Geography
  • Share best practice [to include objectives from other facilitators]

Meet the facilitator:

Janet Ruffhead is currently Head of Humanities at Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School and has been Head of Geography for the past 17 years. She has thirty five years’ teaching experience and has worked in a number of schools in the West Midlands and at International schools in West Africa and South India.

She has held the role of Global Dimension Co-ordinator for over 10 years and has run whole school inset as well as supported staff in developing exciting and interactive resources across all subject areas. She has more recently led successful initiatives to support PP pupils and work to improve their resilience and self-confidence and arranged master classes and workshops for more able students

Psychology A Level Leaders Network 2022-23

Mrs Karan Birkett

Curriculum Leader for Psychology, Post 16 Teaching and Learning Lead

I have been the Curriculum Leader for Psychology at St Albans Girls’ School for 15 years having previously taught at Sir John Lawes School; GCSE Science, A Level Biology and A Level Psychology. Currently there are over 100 students taking Psychology across Years 12 and 13 making the subject one of our most popular at Post 16. I also have assumed the responsibility of the Post 16 Teaching and Learning Lead as part of the Sixth Form Team providing a Study

Skills Toolkit to students, helping to support the Oxbridge programme, organising our Learner Voice, leading a cross curricular Post 16 Teaching and Learning Group and providing CPD through Staff Meetings and our Teaching and Learning Community. I have a strong interest in pedagogy and read extensively to elevate and evolve departmental practice.
