Early Career Framework (ECF) Programme / Early Career Teacher Programme (ECTP)
The Early Career Teacher Programme (ECTP)* is a vital part of every new teacher’s journey, helping them build on what they already know, retain them in the profession and prepare them as potential future leaders. At Alban TSH we are proud to work in partnership with the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) to deliver this programme from September 2025. We will also continue to deliver the Early Career Framework (ECF) Programme to all our colleagues who were registered to take part, prior to September 2025, in partnership with Best Practice Network (BPN).
*Formerly referred to as the Early Career Framework (ECF) Programme
How does the ECTP differ from the ECF?
The new, two-year funded programme will be underpinned by the new ITTECF Framework, replacing the old ECF Framework. Updates to the framework include:
- adaptive teaching and special educational needs and disability
- high quality oral language (oracy)
- early cognitive development
- evidence literacy
Further developments to the programme will include:
- tailored training content for ECTs, using a diagnostic tool to allow ECTs to focus on areas they need to develop most
- greater contextualisation to subject and phase with enhanced subject-specific materials, which includes resources to support the teaching of pupils with SEND
- reduced mentor workload by reducing the training requirement from 2 years to 1 year
What are the benefits of the ECTP?
- In-school mentors sharing their experience and best practice
- Support at an important career stage to increase staff retention
- Fully-funded by the DfE
- Moving ECTs on from ITT learning
- Using a spiral curriculum for a deeper learning experience
- Expert facilitators and efficient systems, training in local groups
