The Power of Questioning by Carmel Bones 2021-22
Presented by experienced education consultant Carmel Bones this engaging workshop organised by Alban Education showcases versatile techniques which take cognitive science into account and can be adapted to suit your subject, your students and their starting points.
This webinar will take place at 4pm on Thursday, 23rd June and will explore the importance, benefits and power of careful questioning in the classroom.
Carmel will demonstrate how to:
- Develop better daily questioning habits and routines.
- Involve your learners more in the questioning process taking account of breath and depth by increasing the participation and thinking ratios.
- Avoid common questioning pitfalls.

Meet the Facilitator
Carmel Bones is thrilled to return to deliver sessions for Alban Education. She works extensively in schools across the UK with groups of teachers, departments, multi academy trusts and local authorities focusing on all aspects of learning and teaching real and remote.
In 2020 she was listed in the prestigious Edtech50 for her innovative work bringing the historic environment to life through virtual visits as part of teacher and student webinars. Her highly acclaimed new Key Stage 3 series ‘Explain This’ for BBC Teach explaining key concepts launched in April 2020. She is an Honorary fellow of the Historical Association. She formed part of the national BBC Daily Bitesize lockdown team producing tailored content for home learning. At Key Stage 4 her secondary content work with Clickview and Hodder was nominated for the Bett Awards 2020 and Teach Secondary Awards 2020. Her work on curriculum innovation was published in Teaching History Magazine Dec 2021 and she was appointed to the Reteach Content Board. She has been working with the British Library to develop a digital teachers pack to run alongside their exhibition 2021-2 Royal Cousins, Rival Queens. In 2022 she has 2 new BBC Bitesize GCSE History series launching and is honoured to be speaking and hosting at the World Education Summit in March and the Historical Association National Conference in May.
Carmel co-authored the Amazon best-selling Hodder ‘My Revision Notes’ for GCSE History AQA and OCR B GCSE. In addition, she has been an A’ Level and GCSE examiner working on the ‘Inside Exams’ podcast with AQA and is a trainer and team leader on the Osiris Teaching Intervention.
