ECT Subject Specific Enhancement PHYSICAL EDUCATION 2021-22

We are keen to ensure that all Early Career teachers have the opportunity to develop networks of subject specific enhancement to supplement their work on the Early Career Framework.  This training is open to all ECTs regardless of their ECF provider; we aim to be able to provide strong subject specific networks across our region.

The subject specific enhancement sessions for PHYSICAL EDUCATION will take place as detailed below.  It is intended that these meetings will be face to face at Beaumont School.

  • SESSION 1: Thursday 18th November 2021
  • SESSION 2: Wednesday 23rd March 2022
  • SESSION 3: Tuesday, 24th May 2022

Areas of Focus

To provide ECTs with an overview of the bursary-led training, support and resources available to them as provided by the National Centre for Computing Education, which will include bespoke training sessions covering tailored content relevant to their self-identified areas of development.

Session 1: 

Three sessions providing essential subject specific support in Year 1 of your Early Career journey.

Session 1 to include:

  • Going it alone – reflections of the term so far
  • Pedagogy and PE – Implementation and Impact
  • T and L ideas for practical and theory PE lessons
  • Needs analysis in preparation for next sessions

Session 2: A 90 minute bespoke training session based on identified needs from previous needs analysis

Session 3: A 90 minute bespoke training session based on identified needs from previous needs analysis

Meet the facilitator

Andy Tolley, Head of PE, Beaumont School

Andy has been teaching Physical Education since 2004 and has been a Head of Department since 2010. He has taught across London in the boroughs of Sutton, Hounslow and Croydon, before moving back to Hertfordshire and taking the position of Head of PE at Beaumont in 2015.

During Andy’s career he has taken on roles such as Gifted and Talented co ordinator, Deputy Head of Department and ITT mentor. He has collaborated with the Youth Sports Trust and Sport England on various school based projects, with contributions to published materials to enhance teaching, learning and assessment in PE nationally.

He has also worked with St Mary’s, Brunel and Hertfordshire Universities contributing to their delivery of secondary PE courses to undergraduates and PGCE students. This has included leading subject specific sessions for trainees and NQT’s.

The subject specific enhancement sessions for Drama will take place as detailed below. The method of delivery will be face-to-face at Beaumont School where possible. Virtual meetings may be used and this will be confirmed prior to each session.

Areas of Focus

The three sessions will introduce you to different areas of teaching Drama. The sessions will explore practical and written elements and where to find balance in this to ensure we are building strong, enthusiastic, creative students who have a passion for the subject.

  • SESSION 2 Thursday, 21st April 2022: Be confident: marking & moderating GCSE exam work
  • SESSION 3 Monday, 9th May 2022: Page to Stage

Meet the facilitator

Lynsey Wallace – Head of Drama, Beaumont School

Lynsey is an experienced teacher who has worked as a Drama specialist for 20 years and has experience in contrasting teaching environments. She is currently working at Beaumont School where she has been Head of Drama for the past 4 years. Her biggest project there has been commissioning and directing the premiere of Game Over by Mark Wheeller and The Breck Foundation. She also practices Drama outside of school where she works with local theatre companies, most recently directing a performance of Laura Wade’s Alice at The Minack Theatre.
