This training course will provide delegates with an understanding of the common mistakes identified by the Information Commissioners Office, as well as useful tips and tricks to help prevent them within their school.

Course description
This training course will update delegates on key areas including:
- phishing attacks;
- unauthorised access (electronic and physical);
- data email to the wrong address;
- data posted or faxed to the wrong address;
- failure to use BCC; and
- loss or theft of paperwork, or data left in unsecure locations.
Materials
All attendees will receive a full copy of the slide deck and presenter notes.
The session will be delivered remotely using Zoom. A link to the meeting will be sent out in advance.
Learning outcomes
Participants will:
- gain an understanding of the common mistakes made when processing personal data; and
- gain skills and knowledge required to prevent the common mistakes.

Darren Rose CIPP/E
Darren spent over 10 years in education as a compliance advisor for Data Protection, SEND and Ofsted which allowed him to understand the issues faced by education, whilst understanding the statutory requirements and issues faced by schools.
In 2017 the opportunity arose for Darren to step back from full time employment, and instead, pursue a dream to become a freelance data protection officer and independent data protection consultant & trainer.
Since 2017, Darren has provided training, support and consultancy to over 2,000 schools of all types and settings including academies, maintained and independents schools, from nursery through to Sixth form.
Darren is passionate about supporting schools in the challenges that they face from the new data protections laws and specialises in providing resource led training and support, focused specifically on a school’s challenges, and needs.
Darren is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and holds the industry recognised Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) qualification from the IAPP.
